Nature conservation and biodiversity: The Oostvaardersplassen bog area – Knowledge

Hans-Erik Kuypers stops his dark green Nissan in front of a fence. He points to an overgrown area behind the wire. “It’s an exclusion,” says the ranger. There are several of these small, fenced areas in the Dutch nature area Oostvaardersplassen. “We have planted bushes and trees in it. That over there is a black alder, this one is a common oak.” Kuypers points to the trees, his light brown shirt crackling. “And we have bushes with thorns everywhere.”
