The natural stone bathroom: what you need to know
Among the stones most suitable for the bathroom, we particularly note granite, basalt or slate, as well as marble and travertine. To adopt this material on the floor, however, we think of comfort and safety: certain types of stone must benefit from a specific non-slip finish. In terms of maintenance, natural stone is not very demanding, since it is satisfied with cleaning with clear water and soap.
Panels, blocks or tiles: natural stone is available in different formats. However, there are alternatives that are easy to implement: facing bricks, and porcelain stoneware tiling, capable of imitating almost any stone.
Associating natural stone and synthetic stone allows spectacular decorations, in particular if you dare to use a semi-precious stone such as jade or quartz.
Which natural stone in the bathroom?
Natural stone offers a remarkable palette of textures and colors. If it is a classic material in the rustic bathroom, it is just as sublime in the contemporary bathroom!
The exposed stone wall is a real asset in the bathroom. This material is particularly common in the charming house. We associate it with an exotic wood for an ethnic spirit, a natural solid wood for a chic industrial inspiration or rattan for a holiday home atmosphere.
For a top-trend bathroom, we mix two trends: mosaic and natural stone. But beware: there is no question here of exclusively dressing the shower! We adopt this coating for the floor, and we combine it with a sober wall covering: waxed concrete, travertine or lime paint.
The travertine bathroom is one of the major current trends. This natural limestone seduces by its very authentic character, which it owes in particular to these small cavities, and by its luminous color. With its shades of beige, it creates a warm atmosphere: you can therefore dare the total look!
Lava stone comes in shades ranging from anthracite gray to black. We love it on the white bathroom floor. We love it as a total look or in combination with a beautiful wood species, for a contemporary bathroom with a sophisticated look.
Marble is distinguished from other natural stones by its very refined character. To create a luxurious atmosphere in the bathroom, we focus on the total look, possibly by combining white marble and black marble. The combination of marble and parquet is another option, for a classic chic look. We then think of imitation wood tiles, an easy-care alternative. To play down the marble, we can finally associate it with a lava stone.
How to adopt natural stone in the bathroom?
Natural stone is commonly used as a floor covering or as a wall covering in the bathroom. This option is of real interest in terms of aesthetics, but also to enlarge the room. However, there are many other ways to adopt this material in the bathroom!
XXL tiles are one of the major trends of the year in terms of interior tiling. We adopt them from floor to ceiling: a trick that gives depth to the room and creates a particularly relaxing aesthetic. Natural stone with slight variations in texture and color, it brings a particular relief to the decor of the bathroom. To warm it up, it is best to use wooden furniture.
Natural stone is considered a noble material because it has a strong presence. It is more than enough on its own to give character to the bathroom. To sublimate it, we therefore focus on minimalism, by reducing the furniture and the decoration to the strict minimum.
While natural stone may be the dominant material in the bathroom, it can also serve as an ornament. In this classic chic bathroom, we play with a pebble mosaic to showcase the freestanding bathtub. This material associated with waxed concrete brings real originality to the decor – while skilfully structuring the room.
The stone washbasin is a classic for adopting natural stone in the bathroom. Travertine, marble and river pebbles are safe bets. To bring a touch of originality to the decor, dare an atypical stone, such as onyx.
The original piece to sublimate the bathroom is the shower tray carved in natural stone. To bring out its raw facet, we take inspiration from this bathroom full of charm, by combining it with delicate tiling.
