According to the company, the supply of natural gas as a raw material and for production at the chemical site in Leuna is currently secured. The Russia-Ukraine conflict has so far had no impact on gas supplies.

A spokesman for the operating company of the site, Infraleuna GmbH, said on Wednesday that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is currently not having any impact on gas supplies.

Natural gas as the basis for energy production

Natural gas is the basis for energy production in Leuna’s power plants and is also important for production, depending on the company profile. Around 100 companies with 14,000 employees are based at the chemical site in Leuna (Saalekreis). In terms of area, Leuna is one of the largest locations of its kind in the industry in Germany. Infraleuna markets the location and offers services.

The Leuna refinery of the French group Total (Paris) is located in neighboring Spergau. In the Total Energies Raffinerie Mitteldeutschland GmbH (Spergau/Saalekreis), crude oil is used to produce fuel that is delivered to around 1,300 filling stations.

According to the company, most of the crude oil for the refinery is obtained by pipeline from Russia. According to the company, the distillation plant processes an average of 30,000 tons of crude oil per day. The refinery also has a large tank farm for supplies.
