Nations League: DFB-Elf plays against Italy, England and Hungary – sport

The German national soccer team has been drawn into a difficult and exciting group in the Nations League. The team of national coach Hansi Flick will face both finalists of the European Championship last summer: Italy and England. This also means revenge for the lost European Championship round of 16 against England (0: 2). The third German opponent in Group 3 of the A-League is Hungary, as was already the case at the European Championships. This was the result of the draw on Thursday evening in Nyon.

The group winner qualifies for the finals in June 2023, the bottom of the group is relegated to League B. The third edition of the once unpopular Uefa competition begins with an international phase (four games) from June 2 to 14, 2022. Almost three weeks after the Bundesliga final, national coach Flick can then subject his World Cup candidates to an intensive test run with a competitive nature. The other two games in September are an important test for the World Cup in Qatar, which will be held from the end of November to mid-December 2022.

Play in the other groups: France, Denmark, Croatia and Austria (group 1). Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Czech Republic (group 2). Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Wales (Group 4).

So far, the DFB selection in this competition has not been successful. In 2018, as the bottom of the group, relegation to the B-League was only avoided by reforming the Uefa mode. In 2020 there was the historic 0: 6 in Spain.

The international season begins for the DFB-Elf with two test games, one of them on March 26th in Sinsheim probably against an African opponent and a few days later away with Spain or the Netherlands as options already mentioned by Flick.
