Nations League 2022/23: Heavy opponents for the DFB-Elf

The German national soccer team will face European champions Italy, England and Hungary in the Nations League 2022/23. That was the result of the draw in Nyon.

At the draw on Thursday evening (December 16, 2021) at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, the German national soccer team caught European champions Italy, vice-European champions England and Hungary as opponents in the Nations League.

The Nations League will take place for the third time next year. The team of national coach Hansi Flick is back in the league A of the best teams – in group 3.

In Group 1 of League A France, Denmark, Croatia and Austria meet, in Group 2 it is Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and the Czech Republic, in Group 4 Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Wales.

The mode

Each team plays at home and away against the three other teams in its group. The four group winners are qualified for the final tournament in June 2023. The four bottom of the group are relegated to the B-League for the following edition.

Test run for the World Cup

There are four games from June 2nd to 14th, two games from September 22nd to 27th. With these six games, the Nations League will also be a test run for the World Cup in Qatar. “Of course we also use these games to get used to it,” said Flick.
