National team: The most bizarre Germany jerseys | STERN.de

The German national team caused a sensation with the official presentation of their new jersey. As simple as the home jersey is, the away jersey is just as colorful. With the daring mix of blue and pink, the jersey is a real eye-catcher.

But the unusual choice of colors also caused a lot of criticism. On social media, many fans and even politicians were upset about the away jersey – even though it probably won’t be used at the European Championships anyway.

Reactions to unusual jerseys are not new

But as huge as the response to the jerseys was, it is not the first time that the national team’s shirts have polarized. While they remained virtually the same for decades – white with black pants – color appeared on the jerseys in the late 1980s and especially in the 1990s. From today’s perspective, some outfits would probably be dismissed as aberrations in taste.

Be it a black-red-gold chest ring, a pink-black-white goalkeeper jersey or a checkerboard pattern in German colors: the designers always surprised fans before big tournaments.

The last major design element was a red chest ring that adorned the 2014 jerseys. Even before the World Cup in Brazil, many fans criticized the unusual choice of colors – until Mario Götze took André Schürrle’s cross in the final against Argentina… the rest is history.

Maybe the bright pink jersey of the DFB team is a good omen for the European Championship in their own country. For coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team, the tournament starts with the opening game on June 14th. The final will take place on July 14th.
