Goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen and defender Thilo Kehrer are expected as latecomers to the DFB quarters in Frankfurt am Main tomorrow.

The duo should then start the ongoing preparations of the national soccer team for the 1000th international match next Monday in Bremen.

The 26-year-old sweeper comes to the DFB selection with a tailwind. On Wednesday evening he had won the final of the UEFA Conference League with West Ham United against AC Fiorentina in Prague. “We are extremely happy. Winning a European title with West Ham is outstanding,” commented the former Schalke player, who came on as a substitute in the 61st minute of the club’s 2-1 win from London.

Ter Stegen had traveled to Japan for a game with FC Barcelona after the end of the season in Spain. The 31-year-old is currently number 1 in the national team after Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer is still out after a broken leg. It is unclear whether Ter Stegen will be in goal in all three international matches against Ukraine, Poland and Colombia at the end of the season, as he did against Peru (2-0) and Belgium (2-3) in the spring. The other goalkeepers in the current DFB squad are Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp and Bernd Leno from FC Fulham.

Ilkay Gündogan (Manchester City) and Robin Gosens (Inter Milan), who will face each other with their clubs in the Champions League final in Istanbul on Saturday, will only join the national team after the Ukraine game.
