After the test match victories, European Championship fever is rising around the German national football team. However, the majority of Germans still don’t expect the title.

After the test match victories in France (2:0) and against the Netherlands (2:1) the euphoria surrounding the German national football team is growing. However, the people in Germany’s belief in a home title at the European Championships in the summer remains limited.

Six percent firmly expect national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team to triumph at the European Championships, according to a representative survey by the opinion research institute YouGov. Another 22 percent said a win in the final was “more likely.”

Last year there was very little optimism: at the end of November, only two percent of those surveyed said that the DFB selection would celebrate Germany’s fourth European Championship title in the final on July 14, 2024 in Berlin.

Half of those surveyed still do not expect a European Championship triumph. 32 percent of those surveyed consider this to be “rather unlikely” and 18 percent consider it “not at all likely”. 21 percent expressed no opinion. The DFB team will initially face Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland in Group A. The tournament favorites are runner-up world champions France and runner-up European champions England.
