Former DFB managing director Oliver Bierhoff believes in the new national coach. Julian Nagelsmann was a good choice, says the 55-year-old, who had to leave the association after the World Cup was eliminated.
Former DFB managing director Oliver Bierhoff is the new national coach Julian Nagelsmann for the right choice.
“Julian is one of Germany’s top trainers, without a doubt,” said the 55-year-old in the podcast “TOMorrow – Business. Stars. Lifestyle” from the Shift management conference in Munich. “Every expert knows that he is an absolutely prepared, good coach.”
The national coaching position is different compared to working in a club. It is not possible to work with the players every day. “You have to make compromises here and there if you want to rehearse certain things, but he has absolute competence,” said Bierhoff, who left the German Football Association after 18 years after the preliminary round exit at the World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022 must.
Nagelsmann was introduced as Hansi Flick’s successor last Friday. Bierhoff emphasized that the 36-year-old’s collaboration with DFB sports director Rudi Völler was important. “He will certainly have support there,” said Bierhoff, whose former large area of responsibility has now been divided into several offices – including that of Völler. The new managing director of the association is Andreas Rettig.
