The DFB will announce the complete squad for the 2024 European Championship on Thursday. Does Julian Nagelsmann have a surprising nomination ready? All information in the live ticker.

Update, 11:55 a.m.: In just under an hour we will know which players Julian Nagelsmann will name in his European Championship squad. The nomination will be announced at the DFB press conference, here in the live ticker from 1 p.m.

Apparently Jonas Hofmann from German champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen can’t have any hopes like that Picture reports.. The attacking midfielder was one of the best scorers in the first half of the season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists. After that, there was a big lull: in the second half of the season, the ex-Gladbach player lost his regular place and only contributed three assists to their first championship title.

Hofmann, who can be deployed flexibly, was last on the pitch for the German national team in the international match against Mexico (2-2) in October. He was no longer nominated in March.

Update from May 16th, 11:15 a.m.: A DFB trio will probably no longer make it into the European Championship squad. According to Sky information, Serge Gnabry, Niklas Süle and Timo Werner will be missing from national coach Julian Nagelsmann’s squad. This doesn’t come as a surprise.

Bayern star Gnabry tore a muscle bundle during the Champions League loss against Real Madrid and will be out for several weeks. Dortmund’s Süle was no longer a regular player at the club, the same applies to Leipzig’s Timo Werner, who was loaned out to Tottenham Hotspur in the second half of the season and was recently sidelined with a thigh problem.

DFB newcomer can probably be happy about his EM ticket

Update from May 16th, 10 a.m.: Another player has apparently been chosen for the European Championship squad. Maximilian Beier counts out loud Picture to the DFB team for the European Championship. The TSG Hoffenheim striker scored 15 goals this Bundesliga season. Beier was also nominated for the international matches against France and the Netherlands in March, but the Nagelsmann newcomer experienced the bitterest DFB scenario.

Völler explains Nagelsmann dilemma before European Championship nomination

Nagelsmann did not make the decision for his European Championship squad easy. It seems as if there are no more big surprises to be expected, the main part of the team has already been decided. DFB sports director Rudi Völler said on Wednesday evening on the sidelines of the announcement of the extension of the association’s sponsorship contract with VW: “Basically everything is fixed.”

Völler reported on what appeared to be a complicated selection process. “Julian noticed that it was different than in the club or at normal international matches,” explained Völler. “I did it myself for four years in the early 2000s. If you then approach a nomination like this, there are of course hardship cases. That’s always been there. Two or three players to whom you then have to explain why it wasn’t enough. There are no 100% truths either.”

Nagelsmann will probably forego the European Championship in 2024 Hummels and Goretzka

It is assumed that Mats Hummels, who was the subject of much controversy on a TV show, and Leon Goretzka will not receive an invitation from Nagelsmann. Völler commented on this without mentioning the names of the two experienced players: “It is always nicer to let the players know that they are there than the other option.”

It remains to be seen whether Nagelsmann will start the preparation with four goalkeepers, which begins on May 26th in Blankenhain in Thuringia. Alexander Nübel from VfB Stuttgart was mentioned by several media on Wednesday as a possible further goalkeeper candidate.
