Olfactory ghost. What causes strange and noxious enough odors to deteriorate the health of police officers assigned to the Berck-sur-Mer police station, in Pas-de-Calais? After a lull of 5 years, the phenomenon started again without anyone knowing why.
“For several weeks, suspicious odors, seeming to cause respiratory and skin problems for the police, have again been observed at the Berck police station”, recognizes the Pas-de-Calais prefecture in a press release published on Monday. A phenomenon all the less innocuous as it had already rotted the lives of civil servants episodically from 2013 to disappear in 2017 as mysteriously as it had appeared.

The State services are therefore starting over what was undertaken in 2014, namely temporarily moving the agents to keep them away from the evil source and undertake to analyze the air. “A specialized company has been commissioned by the SGAMI to carry out an environmental survey on the site”, specifies the prefecture. In addition, medical analyzes have been prescribed for all police officers at the police station.
For a period that has not been specified, all the staff working in the incriminated premises will be transferred, in July, to the former public finance center in Berck-sur-Mer. The unions want to stay there until the problem is solved or until the new police station, announced for 2024, is built.
