The headliner of Parasite, singer Mylène Farmer or Franco-Senegalese director Mati Diop… The Cannes film festival unveiled on Thursday the composition of its jury, mostly female and chaired by Spike Lee.
This jury, which will see the 24 films in the competition, includes five women and four men, including the New York filmmaker, “from five continents and from seven nationalities,” said the festival in a press release. The composition of the jury was the last big announcement expected by moviegoers before the kickoff of the Festival, which is due to start on July 6. The film which will be screened during the last screening has not yet been revealed.

They will have to choose the successor of Parasite of Bong Joon-Ho, crowned in 2019, during the last edition which was held on the Croisette before the pandemic. The headliner of this global success from South Korea, Song Kang-Ho, who plays the father of the family, is part of the jury this year.
He will rub shoulders with another star, Tahar Rahim, French with an international aura, revealed as a prisoner in A prophet by Jacques Audiard. The actor is now making his way in Hollywood, as recently in Designated Guilty, where he plays a Mauritanian locked up in Guantanamo, alongside Jodie Foster.
Her compatriot, actress and director Mélanie Laurent, co-director with Cyril Dion of Tomorrow documentary committed to the environment (one of the causes promoted by the festival this year), is also part of it. For her part, the American Maggie Gyllenhaal, who has been celebrating since The dark knight, is currently working on his first film.

As for the filmmakers, the jury includes the Brazilian Kleber Mendonça Filho (Bacurau), awarded in Cannes in 2019 in competition just like the Austrian Jessica Hausner (Little joe) and the Franco-Senegalese Mati Diop, whose first film imbued with fantasy around emigration, Atlantic, had received the Grand Prix.
A star of French-speaking song completes this jury: Mylène Farmer. The native of Quebec, interpreter of Without counterfeiting or Disenchanted, is “inseparable from the world of image and cinema which has always fascinated her”, in particular through her clips, underlines the festival.
