At the Loire-Atlantique Assize Court,
On the eighth day of the Troadec-Caouissin trial, the Loire-Atlantique Assize Court heard Thursday Renée Troadec, 79, mother of Pascal Troadec, one of the four victims, and Lydie Troadec, on trial for having assisted the main defendant Hubert Caouissin. Her testimony was eagerly awaited but this petite woman, questioned by videoconference from Finistère where she lives, was ultimately not very talkative and sometimes approximate.
After recounting that Charlotte and Sébastien Troadec spent all their summers at home when they were children, Renée Troadec confirmed having cut ties with her son Pascal Troadec and her daughter-in-law Brigitte since a stormy reunion in 2014 during which Hubert Caouissin and Lydie Troadec accused Pascal of having stolen a treasure of gold coins.
“I think they didn’t do it”
“I knew”, she said about this theft [qui n’a jamais pu être confirmé, pas plus que l’existence d’un trésor]. “Pascal, we saw his way of life. He bought himself cars when he didn’t earn much, ”claims the 60-year-old. This family treasure would have been found by chance by her late husband in Brest. “’My husband broke a wall in the building and he found gold in it,” she says. He had put it in the attic. But I didn’t see anything. We had to go up. “
Despite the years gone by and the crimes, she seems to have retained a resentment towards her missing son. “Pascal said bad things about us, abominable things”, she indicates, confirming that she had not answered his letters after 2014. “Did Pascal love you? »Asks the president of the court. ” I do not know. In the beginning, surely, ”she replies. Was she being manipulated by Hubert Caouissin, this son-in-law whom she found “sympathetic”? “No, not Hubert”, assures Renée Troadec.
Asked again about the supposed theft of gold coins, at the origin of family tensions, the retiree ended up estimating: “I think they [Pascal et Brigitte Troadec] did not do it ”. Unlike other members of her family, Renée Troadec has chosen not to become a civil party in this trial of the quadruple murder of her son, her daughter-in-law and her two grandchildren.
