MV shipyards – parent company also bankrupt – economy

After the MV shipyards, the Hong Kong parent company Genting has now gone to court because it can no longer pay its bills. The company has filed for bankruptcy protection in the Bermuda court, according to a release from the company. On January 10, an application for insolvency was filed for MV Werften at the district court in Schwerin after the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania failed to pay out a loan to Genting of 78 million euros. The Asian group, which offers cruises and gambling, among other things, has gotten into trouble as a result of the pandemic. This step means a setback for the MV shipyards, said the preliminary insolvency administrator of the shipbuilding companies in Wismar, Stralsund and Rostock, Christoph Morgen. The cruise company Dream Cruises, which belongs to Genting, is the customer for the ship “Global One”, which is already 75 percent complete at the shipyard in Wismar. There are several interested parties, said Morgen.
