The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Health Agency explains that the explosion of Covid-19 cases in Creuse is due to tea dances, pétanque competitions and mussels and chips evenings, reports France Blue Creuse Thursday, November 4. The prefect of the department Virginie Darpheuille calls on the over 65s to be vaccinated and threatens to strengthen health measures.

Concretely, out of the 117 Creusois who tested positive last week, 50 had taken part in this type of event, in which clusters were formed. “The incidence rate doubled in Creuse in less than a week, it even quadrupled for people over 65”, worries the prefect on France Bleu Creuse. It stands at 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, or even 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the over 65 category.
In the department, 14 people are now hospitalized for Covid-19, including one in intensive care – a first in months. State services are worried because hospitalizations are always a little out of step with the figures from screenings.
For the prefect, “There are two solutions for the situation to improve and I want to send a very strong message to our fellow citizens this morning: take your third dose when you are in the target, that is to say the most 65 years old, because this booster dose keeps the immune barriers very high, and you must respect barrier gestures, do not kiss, do not shake hands, and wear the mask every time you are in situations requiring it “.
Virginie Darpheuille brings together local officials from Creuse on Monday, November 8 to hear their proposals to curb contamination. She warns that if things turn out in the wrong direction, she may decide on further steps to go “from the obligation to wear a mask in establishments subject to the health pass to the prohibition of festive events in establishments open to the public as in the spring, through the re-establishment of the wearing of a mask outside”.
