Musk promotes Republican politics

On Monday, Elon Musk dedicated an election recommendation to the “independently thinking voters” on Twitter: the Republicans. The Americans will vote for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and about a third of the 100 seats in the Senate on Tuesday. The new Twitter boss justifies his election tip by referring to the separation of powers, which reins in the “worst excesses of both parties”. With a Democratic presidency held by Joe Biden since 2021, Musk advocates voting for a Republican Congress.

Musk’s tweet has a corresponding impact on the public debate given his enormous reach as the richest person in the world, Tesla boss and new CEO of Twitter.

Musk had repeatedly made political statements in the past and expressed solidarity with the Republican Party, which is still dominated by Trump. In May he declared that the Democrats had become a “party of division and hatred”. He has also announced that he will investigate a complaint from the right-wing political spectrum that Twitter is being censored in favor of “the left”. Twitter should not favor either side, he wrote.
