Musical “Spamalot” on Broadway: Please be as silly as possible – culture

How shamelessly silly this musical is. There are the fart jokes, delivered in a grotesquely exaggerated French accent. There is the black knight who, at the end of a sword fight in the course of which he loses his arms and legs, kindly offers that they can agree on a draw. Not to mention the coconuts. Since in this version of the Arthurian legend neither the king nor the knights of his Round Table have horses, a squire tirelessly beats two coconut halves together, and to this sound the high lords act with great seriousness as if they were riding.
