The pop icon released her last album in 2017. Working on her new record was an “alchemical process,” says Shakira.

pop singer Shakira (47, “Waka Waka”, “Hips Don’t Lie”) has announced her first album in seven years. The Colombian’s twelfth studio album entitled “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” (in German: “Women don’t cry anymore”) is scheduled to be released on March 22nd.

The singer and songwriter released her last album “El Dorado” in May 2017. The new record will contain 16 songs, including “Music Session #53” and “TQG”, which Shakira released last year and which many interpreted as a reckoning with her ex. The pop icon separated from soccer star Gerard Piqué – the father of her two sons – in 2022 after a twelve-year relationship.

The singer writes on Instagram about her new album: “The creation of this work was an alchemical process. As I wrote each song, I rebuilt myself. As I sang them, my tears turned into diamonds and my vulnerability into strength. ” The Grammy winner said in an interview a year ago that her songs were the best therapy for her.
