The documentary “FCK 2020 – Two and a half years with Scooter” is now showing in German cinemas. In this context, HP Baxxter talks about old age, decay and freedom.

Scooter frontman HP Baxxter (58) struggles with aging. “Techno is movement and energy. When that’s gone, it gets tough,” he said in an interview with the “Tagesspiegel”. “That’s why I suppress aging as much as possible,” he said. “As long as you’re in the action, it keeps you fit and fresh. Of course you have to fight against decline with sport.”

The musician, whose real name is Hans Peter Geerdes, can’t take the partying away. “Around New Year’s Eve I had four wild nights on Sylt and then I was done. Then I thought: dude, that’s no longer possible,” he said. “Ultimately it’s my own fault if I fall over. But that’s inside me and I don’t think you can get it out anymore.”

The documentary “FCK 2020 – Two and a half years with Scooter” has just started in German cinemas. In it, director Cordula Kablitz-Post takes a look at the band and their front man HP Baxxter, who comes from East Friesland. Scooter will be accompanied as they release their 20th album despite the pandemic.

“For me, freedom is the most important thing”

In the interview, the singer also criticized the federal government’s corona policy. “I was about to demonstrate against the Corona measures, but my manager held me back,” he said. “So I’m talking about 2021 now, not the beginning of the pandemic – it was right that you didn’t do anything. But later we had an outside view.” In Sweden and England he was able to play concerts without restrictions, but in Germany it was “so stubborn”. “I see myself as a free spirit. And for me, freedom is the most important thing, the highest good.”

With over 30 million records sold and countless awards, the band is one of the most successful German acts.
