Music school Planegg-Krailling – Unnecessary escalation – Munich district

The new director Fabian Bögelsack is right when he feels reminded of a “kindergarten” in view of the events at the Planegg-Krailling music school. That says a lot about the quality of the discussions between the board, teachers, members and the works council in recent months. To this day it is not clear what exactly led to the upheavals that have now brought the renowned school to the abyss. It seems to be a collective failure of everyone involved – especially when it comes to the ability to communicate. In the end one has to assume that above all personal animosity, which arose from different opinions about the structure of a music school, brought about a situation that is in fact intolerable in the long run.

The statutes of the music school Planegg-Krailling have worked perfectly for 30 years. It grants teachers special rights. They are even allowed to have a say in their own board of directors and thus their own employer, which is indeed unusual. But why wasn’t someone upset about this before? And why was it not possible to discuss it objectively and come to a conclusion? The music school is a public institution that gets a large part of its financial support from the municipalities and thus from the taxpayer. Nevertheless, it would have been the duty of the municipalities to have a moderating effect and not immediately threaten to cut off the money supply and set up a new sponsoring association?

It can be assumed that things would not have come to this if the annual general meeting had been public. But as it was, everything was kept under wraps and has now exploded. Ultimately, it is the children and parents who suffer, and most educators, who only care about one thing: to be able to teach music in peace. But maybe there is one last chance.
