The Eurovision Song Contest is in Liverpool in just over a month. The competition is great fun for drag queen Olivia Jones. For Germany, she sees several reasons for a good result in 2023.

In her own words, Hamburg drag queen Olivia Jones has been enthusiastic about the Eurovision Song Contest for a long time.

“I’m a huge ESC fan. We had the big ESC party here on Spielbudenplatz for years. I know a lot of artists, whether it’s Mary Roos, who has already done ESC, or Conchita Wurst, who also told me what a great adventure it is,” Jones told the German Press Agency. The competition is great fun and can break boundaries. “It doesn’t matter what religion you come from, what culture or country you come from. And that’s what the ESC stands for and that’s why I like it so much.”

Jones thinks the German participants, the Hamburg rock band Lord of the Lost, have a good chance, “because it’s somehow a contemporary performance, it’s crazy, but it’s substantial, real music and not something created like that.” Jones says he has known the group’s lead singer, Chris Harms, for many years. “Of course, we share a love for the district.” It is a great sign that the band members represent St. Pauli “so wonderfully, whether they win or lose. The great thing is that they are there and just rock the thing.”

The band represents Germany with the song “Blood & Glitter”. The venue for the ESC final on May 13 is Liverpool. Britain is stepping in as ESC host country for Russia-attacked Ukraine, which won the 2022 competition in Turin.
