30 years of Spice Girls: British Postal Service prints stamps

“If you wanna be my lover…”: The Spice Girls wrote music history in the 1990s. In Great Britain you will soon be able to stick them on envelopes.
The British Post Office issues special stamps to the Spice Girls – this is also intended to commemorate the founding of the girl group 30 years ago. The motifs show musicians Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Melanie Chisholm (“Mel C”) and Melanie Brown (“Mel B”) at previous appearances, as the PA news agency reported.
The Spice Girls stormed the charts in the 1990s with their song “Wannabe” – and a hotel in the music video. The girl group emerged from a casting and sang songs such as “2 Become 1”, “Spice Up Your Life” and “Viva Forever”.
“When we founded the Spice Girls, we could never have dreamed that 30 years later we would be the first female band to have an entire selection of stamps dedicated to them,” PA quoted the musicians as saying in a statement.
The ten stamps not only show joint appearances from 1997 to 2012, but also individual motifs of the five women. Singer Geri, for example, wears her iconic dress with the Union Jack, the British flag, in one picture. For example, there were already a number of British special stamps for the Beatles, Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones.
