The musical is “promising,” but still has some weak points, says the New York Times. But in New York there will be a celebration for the premiere.

The first musical by the US singer Alicia Keys (42) celebrated its premiere in New York. “Hell’s Kitchen” is about a young woman who grows up in the Manhattan district of the same name – just like Keys himself. The singer wrote music and lyrics for the musical, but is not on stage herself.

The play can be seen in a smaller New York theater until January, and tickets sold out quickly. “Hell’s Kitchen” could then possibly move on to the famous Broadway.

Initial reviews were mixed. The piece still has some weak points, but is already “promising,” wrote the New York Times. Keys, who is married to musician Swizz Beatz and has two children, became world famous with songs like “Fallin'” and “Empire State of Mind” and has already won numerous awards.
