Hatred of the von Weizsäcker family is said to have driven him to murder Fritz von Weizsäcker. Now the convict was found dead in the correctional facility.

The murderer of the Berlin doctor Fritz von Weizsäcker has died. He was found dead in his room in the correctional hospital on April 18, a spokesman for the Berlin public prosecutor’s office said on Friday. Previously had the “Bild” newspaper reported about it. “We are conducting a death investigation. There is no evidence of third-party negligence.”

The man from Andernach (Rhineland-Palatinate) was sentenced to twelve years in prison in the summer of 2020 for the murder of the doctor and the attempted murder of a police officer. The court also ordered her to be placed in a psychiatric hospital.

Hatred led to murder

The public prosecutor saw hatred of the family of the deceased as a motive, in particular his father, the former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker (1920-2015).

Fritz von Weizsäcker was stabbed to death on November 19, 2019 in the Berlin Schlossparkklinik towards the end of a lecture. According to the verdict, the perpetrator had insidiously rammed a knife into his neck for base motives. The professor died. The policeman who overpowered the attacker was seriously injured.

A report had confirmed the man had a mental disorder. His ability to control was significantly reduced. As a result, he was not sentenced to life imprisonment, as is usual for murder.
