Murder in Hockenheim and Ulm: Why parents kill their children – criminologist

Three children were killed by their parents or foster parents in Baden-Württemberg on the Easter weekend. In an interview, lawyer and criminologist Theresia Höynck explains who the perpetrators are, what the motives for child killing can be and what prevention options there are.

Again and again children are victims of violent crimes in Germany. Three children were killed in Baden-Württemberg over the Easter weekend – the perpetrators were their own parents. In Hockenheim, a mother is said to have killed her seven and nine-year-old sons. In Ulm, 200 kilometers away, a man who is said to have stabbed the seven-year-old daughter of his partner turned himself in to the police. These acts are shocking because the children were killed by people they were supposed to protect and love.
