Murder 34 years ago: Police stop investigation into Klaus Berninger cold case – Bavaria

After a good two years of intensive new investigations, the murderer of the baker’s apprentice Klaus Berninger from Lower Franconia remains unknown. Because the police are unable to make any progress in the 1990 homicide, they have stopped their work on the case for the time being, as the Lower Franconia police headquarters and the Aschaffenburg public prosecutor announced on Tuesday. “The breakthrough hoped for by the exceptionally intensive special commission did not materialize.”

The 16-year-old from Wörth am Main (Miltenberg district) disappeared on December 20, 1990 after visiting a youth club. Three days later, walkers found his body in a forest near the small town on the Bavarian-Hesse state border. The police have since assumed that the teenager was killed. According to what was known at the time, he died as a result of being hit in the neck with a sharp-edged tool. Since spring 2022, the Lower Franconian police have been investigating more intensively.
