The position of municipal officer Kristina Frank (CSU) is advertised. The city council decided this with a large majority on Wednesday. Frank was elected to office in 2018 by the then ruling majority of the SPD and CSU. In 2020 she ran as mayoral candidate for the CSU and was defeated in the runoff election by Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD). Speakers are elected for six years each. Frank’s contract ends on July 31, 2024.
The CSU politician had previously stated that she would like to continue her job. An unusually broad political spectrum from the FDP to the Left and of course the CSU had spoken out in favor of staying in view of Frank’s performance. The Greens also seemed willing to talk, but the SPD as a coalition partner is said to have been unwilling to re-elect the CSU speaker. It is expected that Frank will still run for another term.
