The decline of shops in the Maxvorstadt university district begins directly behind the Ludwig Maximilians University campus. Where the Georg Konrad bookbinding shop used to be, opposite the building of the Faculty of Humanities at Schellingstrasse 10, the windows have been taped shut. Behind it there are plastered walls and a metal frame, visible only through a hole in the paper cover. It’s been like this “for a long time,” they say in the neighboring insurance office. Who would move in there? “We do not know.”
