At half past midnight the Munich fire department received its first call from Herzog-Rudolf-Straße. It is November 10, 1938 – a date that will go down in German history books as a particularly dark chapter under the name Reichspogromnacht. As fire chief Walther Thürauf later noted in his report, a report of a fire in a Jewish textile shop on Augustenstrasse was received as early as 11:59 p.m. Now the calls are coming from Herzog-Rudolf-Strasse, a dozen in total. The reason: The synagogue is on fire.
