Munich: Youth Film Festival Flickering and Noise 2023 in the Gasteig HP8 – Munich

What happens when the corona virus turns students into zombies? The pseudo-documentary “Corombies” should bring clarity. Three times a week, the students have to stand in front of the class for a special test: the teacher opens a lunch box containing a rare steak. While some turn away with a sniff, others find the smell tempting – they have already mutated into carnivorous “Corombies”.

When Benjamin pulls a joke and pretends to like the smell of the steak, the teacher locks him in the gym with the other “Corombies” because no protestations that he was just joking help him. Three figures with blood-smeared faces are already waiting for him there.

Screenplay, director, camera, sound – in the eleven-minute feature film “corombies” the 13-year-olds taking the film elective at the municipal Fridtjof-Nansen secondary school took on all the tasks themselves. It is one of 80 films showing from March 30th to April 1st at the Young film festival “Flicker & Noise” in the Gasteig HP8 to be shown.

When the young filmmakers are a few years older, interpersonal issues take center stage. In particular, romantic feelings are sometimes seriously and philosophically, sometimes humorously reflected. So tried in the feature film “The Multiway Affair” the young amateur detective Milan to track down the great love of his friend. Vitus got to know her quite prosaically in the supermarket, when throwing in returnable bottles. Where the wonderfully helpless and weird dialogue between Vitus and his “mystical mistress from the deposit machine”, directed by Derik Rodrigues from the Drehmetrie film team, ultimately leads, should not be revealed at this point. However, it is extremely amusing to follow as it progresses.

On the other hand, the path of the young talents who show their works at “Flimmern & Rauschen” every year can be seen in another film. “The Telephone Booth” also tells of a misguided approach, in this case Tom wants to organize a surprise party for his dream wife Anna. But the guests are referred to a phone booth by the barmaid, who thinks they don’t have enough space (the bar is empty!). And no, glasses and bottled alcohol are not allowed there, according to the strict, Kafkaesque house rules.

The screenplay was written by Lukas März – who also directed it together with Kilian Hügelensack – and you can tell from the short film that a young film professional is at work here. März has just finished his screenplay studies at the HFF. His final screenplay is a “historical comedy that takes place in the Second World War,” he says. And he has already sold it to a Munich film production company. Because he is of the opinion that a good script is indispensable for a film of this kind, he wants to analyze what makes a good story in exchange with other filmmakers and interested parties on Saturday from 10 a.m. We ask that you register: [email protected].
