Munich: Young pickpocket caught red-handed – Munich

The Munich police caught a professional and international pickpocket in the act on Monday. The alleged perpetrator is said to be only 15 years old. Whether this is true still needs to be determined, said a police spokesman. 21 crimes committed by the young woman are known from Cologne alone, as well as others from the Karlsruhe area, Belgium, France and Switzerland.

When five pickpockets were reported within two hours in Munich’s pedestrian zone on Monday morning, the special investigators from Commissariat 55 set out. Video recordings documented one of the crimes. The victims were all older women. The pickpocket investigators then had a concrete suspicion. At around 2.30 p.m. they observed the 15-year-old trying unsuccessfully to steal a woman’s wallet on an escalator at Marienplatz.

According to the police, when boarding the train, the 15-year-old was able to successfully pull her wallet out of her handbag from a 75-year-old Munich woman. Immediately afterwards, the suspect was arrested by pickpocket investigators.
