Munich: Wind turbine in Freimann turns again – Munich

The large wind turbine of Stadtwerke München (SWM) in Freimann has been repaired and is turning again. According to SWM, the work on the system has been completed and the wind turbine has been producing green electricity again since midday on Thursday. Due to a defect, the facility near the Fröttmaninger Arena was shut down as a precaution at the end of April. The manufacturer Enercon had found damage during an inspection of the 69-meter-long rotor blades – and this was only about 15 months after the wind turbine was commissioned in January 2021. In its announcement, SWM did not provide any information on the cause of the damage.

The wind turbine is the second of its kind in Munich, the other one has been on the rubble hill in Fröttmaning since 1999. The new, much larger system supplies around 2,800 households with around 7.1 million kilowatt hours of electricity a year.
