Back then, in 2013, it seemed like a good deal for the Free State: 230 million euros in income in one fell swoop and nothing more to do with the Old Academy, which was in dire need of renovation, for 65 years. For this period, the state assigned the property on Munich’s pedestrian zone to René Benko’s Signa Group under leasehold. But now the state government and state parliament suddenly have a lot to do with the Old Academy again – and annoyingly so.
