Unlike in real life, no one bothers to hide anything here. Munich, CSU, Wiesnstadtrat, master butcher, prostitutes, drugs, debts, fall: The person who Anton Artibilov uses as a template in his play “Butcher in Masks” is easily identifiable as Georg Schlagbauer, the former hope of the CSU, who fell deeply in 2016. It was a scandal, which of course works well as material. Artibilov probably knows that too, although he has made something very odd of his own about fate and politics in his play. He talks almost anachronistically about the CSU, amazing that it once again makes it onto a theater stage.
