Munich: Urban housing construction in the Werksviertel is dragging on – Munich

The city is awarding a municipal plot of land for 250 new apartments to Münchner Wohnen – after seven years. It’s not just the opposition in the city council that criticizes the long duration, mayor Reiter also says: “That can’t be our claim.”

Seven years after creating building rights, the city of Munich is now awarding a municipal plot of land for 250 new apartments in the Werksviertel at Ostbahnhof to Münchner Wohnen. The city council’s planning committee unanimously decided on this so-called “in-house award” on Wednesday – however, it was accompanied by clear criticism from Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) and from the opposition about the long duration of the process. In addition, it will take another three years until construction begins and even six years until completion.
