Munich: Thousands at Corona demo – confrontations with the police

Originally an organizer had planned a protest march with the motto “For a non-discriminatory society without mandatory vaccinations” with 5,000 participants. After the district administration department wanted to allow only one stationary event on the Theresienwiese with a maximum of 2,000 people, the organizer canceled the demonstration.

Candles and posters critical of vaccinations

Nevertheless, at the originally planned time from 6 p.m., thousands of people met between the Feldherrnhalle and the university. They moved through Ludwigsstrasse and the side streets in Maxvorstadt and Schwabing. Again and again they chanted “Resistance” and “Freedom”, carried candles and occasionally posters critical of the vaccination.

Due to the number, Ludwigstrasse had to be closed from Odeonsplatz to the Siegestor in the meantime. Even in the surrounding streets there was sometimes no way for drivers to get through.

Counter-demonstration on Odeonsplatz

According to the police, around 120 people protested at the same time against so-called lateral thinkers on Odeonplatz. An alliance called for “solidarity instead of oath” from the left, the Green Youth and other groups.
