This Wednesday, Munich’s city council will decide what the leaders of the city hall coalition, Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) and his deputy Dominik Krause (Greens), announced a few days ago: The Gasteig should be completely renovated, i.e. also fundamentally modernized, and not just completely renovated, which would have meant that only the dilapidated building technology was replaced. The city has allocated 710 million euros for this, and according to current calculations it could go up to 750 million. A municipal subsidiary is to take over the Gasteig and make it fit for the future in a new partnering model with a construction company. The city expects to reopen at the end of 2032.
