Munich: There is a supply gap in Fürstenried – Munich

When a large-scale conversion of the AEZ consumer market and shopping center in Fürstenried-West begins in February 2023, there will suddenly be a supply gap for the residents of the area. Because far and wide there are no other sources of shopping for everyday goods. An applicant at the citizens’ meeting for Thalkirchen-Obersendling-Forstenried-Fürstenried-Solln pointed out the problem in October, and now it was also an issue in the district committee (BA). With an “urgent application to ensure local supply”, the SPD parliamentary group wanted to persuade the committee to appeal to the city to “act on the owners of the AEZ” to provide a replacement during the demolition and conversion phase – for example by setting up easily accessible ones loading container.

However, the majority of the district committee did not think much of the idea. For example, the question arises as to where on the construction site the containers could be erected at all without blocking the access roads to the construction site and the neighboring residential buildings and impeding the parallel new school building on Königswieser Straße. The BA vote does not change the concerns of the people in the district. It is estimated that they will have to travel long distances by bus or car to buy groceries and other everyday items for three years. The nearest full-line retailer can be found about three kilometers away at Schweizer Platz.

Meanwhile, BA chairman Ludwig Weidinger (CSU) is trying to provide local care. He asked whether it wouldn’t be possible to establish a weekly market in the district. Because too few dealers expect lucrative business from this, nothing is likely to come of it. “Maybe we’ll at least get a fruit stand,” hopes Weidinger. In the meantime, the problem has reached the municipal department for labor and economics. As city councilor Veronika Mirlach (CSU) reported to the district committee, people are increasingly thinking about ways out of the supply bottleneck.
