The Sportfreunde Stiller music was played for 21 years, making them Munich’s most successful guitar band. Then four years ago: radio silence, pause. How it came about and why they are starting again now. A conversation.

After a concert by Sports fans Stiller In the summer of 2017 in Frankfurt an der Oder there was radio silence for the time being. No more concerts, no new songs, no messages on social media. Many fans wrote them letters during this break, say singer Peter Brugger and drummer Florian Weber on a sunny autumn lunchtime in the café next to the Nordbad, without bassist “Rüde” Linhof, who asked for an excuse. The fans wanted autograph cards, but also answers to the question of when things would go on again. But this question was not so easy to answer, there were too different views within the band. They didn’t even rule out an end. Now Munich’s most successful guitar band is back.
