Munich: The “Sendlinger Loch” – now a lake – Munich

The melting snow has created puddles all over the city, some ankle deep. It even gave the Sendling district a new lake: In the “Sendlinger Loch”, the orphaned construction pit at Alramstrasse 14, the bushes that had thrived below have disappeared beneath a shimmering green surface of water. The neighboring buildings are idyllically reflected in it.

Anyone who passes by there often will have noticed the reason: the pumps are out. Previously, they had reliably pumped the pit empty around the clock, in which 128 luxury apartments are to be built one day – if the economic situation of the investor M-Concept allows it. But now the machines are switched off so that they are not damaged due to the cold, explains a spokesman for M-Concept. They would be switched on again “after the winter period”. Neighbors don’t have to worry about basements filling up: “The water level in the excavation pit has no influence on the level of the groundwater outside.”

Munich doesn’t have to worry about flooding at the moment either. Although the water management office has sent out an “advance warning” that the water levels in all bodies of water are “at a high level”, the situation is not expected to become “tense” over the next few days.
