Munich: The quartet of the saxophonist Asger Nissen in the Seidlvilla – Munich

Since he moved from Copenhagen to Berlin at the end of 2017, when he was just 21 years old, the Danish alto saxophonist Asger Nissen has quickly made a name for himself on the German jazz scene with his idiosyncratic, emotional and energetic tone. From Jim Black to Jeff Ballard, from Wanja Slavin to Christopher Dell, from Oliver Steidle to Pablo Held, he has played and toured with all sorts of top artists. Now he has put together his own formation with his peers – they are all only 25 to 27 – which only plays his compositions: Nissen Mosh is the name of the quartet with pianist (and Michael Wollny student) Valentin Gerhardus, bassist Thorbjørn Stefansson (alias TB) and drummer Marius Wankel, which is now part of the “Jazz+” series in the Seidlvilla presents. Four excellent improvisers with a strong band sound. On the basis of Nissen’s exciting compositions, which the critic Wolf Kampmann attests that they “know how to harmoniously combine the abstract with the song-emotional” and with their long dramaturgical arcs show a certain spiritual proximity to Tim Berne.
