Munich: The long struggle for Gerhard Polt’s project “Forum Humor” – Munich

For years, citizens of Munich have been fighting for a “humor forum” in the old cattle bank centered around the cabaret star. While the municipal property continues to deteriorate, the initiative is now investing in events. It moves a bit away from the alternative location on Lake Starnberg.

Yes, gallows humor is needed in this matter. For more than six years, Munich citizens have been fighting around Bavaria’s best-known cabaret artist Gerhard Polt to set up the “Humor Forum” in the old cattle bank in the slaughterhouse district. This was not initially well received by the city council, and the SPD had at times even advocated setting up a hospice in the building right next to the slaughterhouse. In 2021, the city council then commissioned the culture and municipal department with a tender for the city-owned property, which enjoys monument protection, has been largely empty for a quarter of a century and is increasingly falling into disrepair.
