Munich: The Dante winter warm outdoor pool stays cold – Munich

950,000 visitors, germs and a fire: Summer operation ends in the Munich pools. Only the Schyrenbad remains open, but unheated – a foretaste of further energy-saving measures.

After the sauna operation of Stadtwerke München (SWM), winter operation in the Dantebad is now also falling victim to the energy crisis. The SMW announced this on Wednesday. The large pools, which are completely outdoors, have a particularly high energy consumption when it is cold. Like the other SWM pools, the Dantebad will end its summer operations next Monday, September 12th. Then only the dogs are allowed to hop into the previously chlorine-free swimming pool in the nudist area during “Dog Bathing Day” on September 16th. The pools remain closed to bathers.

Only the Schyrenbad remains open until September 30th, albeit with an unheated pool. Only the showers stayed warm, but the SWM reduced the entrance fee to three euros.

The 2022 bathing season, which started on May 2nd, attracted 953,000 visitors to the outdoor pools until September 7th. In 2021 there were around 670,000 bathers in mixed summer weather and under corona conditions. A new feature of this outdoor pool season was the opportunity to buy the pool ticket online in advance. According to SWM, this new option, including extra access on hot, particularly busy days, was very well received: They sold around 33,000 online tickets.

The two pool managers Nicole Gargitter and Clara Kronberger are looking forward to a summer without restrictions caused by the pandemic. However, there were some adversities: First, the SWM had to temporarily close the Maria-Einsiedel-Bad because of too high a germ load, then at the end of August there was a fire in the Prinzregentenbad, which has been closed since then.
