Munich: Start of circus workshops for children outside of the holidays – Munich

When Circus Krone leaves its parent company and travels, it plays in the “Blue Cathedral”; when the Cirque du Soleil comes to Munich, it performs in a white tent. Now the Johanniter are adding a new tent to the cosmos of colors: the jagged red and white, 24 square meter “Tent of Possibilities” that they have pitched all year round on the Sugar Mountain cultural area.

Since last week, children over the age of six have been able to get a taste of circus air in weekly workshops, train with aerial silks, trapeze, dance acrobatics or acting under the guidance of trained artists. It started with twelve workshops, with plans to expand in April and May. If you are interested but still unsure which of the disciplines suits you best, you can take a look and participate in open training twice a week – without prior registration.

“The idea was born in the Lilalu holiday program. We wanted to install a permanent circus tent for leisure activities so that we could accompany the children more continuously, independently of the holidays,” says Svenja von Weitershausen. She is one of four educators who, like the Lilalu team, work under the umbrella organization of the Johanniter.

So that all young artists can take part in the new offer, the workshops are offered free of charge or at affordable prices. Of course only after school, the start is not before 4 p.m. This offer is made possible by the sponsors “Culture makes you strong” and the “German Children and Youth Foundation”.

“We had been thinking about the project for some time. But the pandemic has now made us realize how urgent it is. Children and young people have to be given more support. They need more time and exchange with each other, they have to move and be able to rediscover a feeling of lightness.” , says Svenja von Weitershausen. All of this should now find its place in the Johanniter tent of possibilities. It is located at Helfenriederstrasse 12, near the U-Bahn station Machtlfinger Strasse.
