Munich: Sendling-Westpark gets a youth center – Munich

Initially it will only be an interim solution with containers, and according to the city administration, the opening will “probably” not take place until 2025. But in Sendling-Westpark they are happy that something will happen in the foreseeable future with their own youth center (JUZ). In the neighborhood of the selected location, a meadow on the corner of Garmischer Straße and Bernrieder Straße, the joy does not seem to be quite as pronounced as among young people and local politicians. Recently, a resident approached the district committee in session to raise concerns about noise and concerns about supposedly foreseeable pollution of surrounding gardens.

The district committee rejected such fears. The unanimous message from district representatives was that it should be possible to operate social facilities even in densely built-up areas such as Sendling-Westpark. “Don’t worry, this won’t be a permanent issue because the youth center is looked after by social educators,” added the chairman of the district committee Günter Keller (SPD) after the meeting. He and the other members of the committee “will also keep an eye on it,” he assures concerned residents.

The social department has now outlined how the JUZ planning for Sendling-Westpark should proceed. A sponsor for the facility has not yet been found, the department said upon request, but “the selection process is ongoing.” The financing of the project is secured.
