A scrap car burst into flames at a private metal recycling yard in the Sendling district of Munich late Tuesday morning. Both the waste disposal company and concerned residents called the fire department. According to the fire department, the column of smoke over Geretsrieder Strasse was visible from afar.
A car that was being prepared for scrap burned in a covered storage area and was quickly extinguished by the fire department. Emergency services checked the office rooms above and found smoke there. According to the Munich fire department, there were no longer any people in the rooms at this time. The affected area was cleared of smoke using a high-performance fan.
Fire investigators from the criminal police are investigating how the scrap vehicle caught fire. The material damage cannot yet be quantified.
