Munich: S-Bahn trunk line tunnel closed for two weekends – Munich

Because nine kilometers of rails have to be replaced, the S-Bahn will only run to a limited extent over the next two weekends. Passengers sometimes have to switch to trams and buses and plan longer travel times.

Be it maintenance work or construction work for the second trunk line: In 2022 a lot will be built in the Munich S-Bahn network. At the same time, this means a lot of restrictions for the passengers. On the next two weekends, January 28th to 31st and February 4th to 7th, the main route between Ostbahnhof and Hackerbrücke will be completely closed to train traffic. The reason: the railways are replacing a total of nine kilometers of rails. The closures last from 10:30 p.m. Friday evening to 4:40 a.m. Monday morning.

As a replacement, the train offers buses between Ostbahnhof and Donnersbergerbrücke. These run every seven minutes on Saturdays until 9.30 p.m., otherwise every ten to 15 minutes. The rail replacement service will be extended to Pasing from midnight.

Passengers can also use the U5 subway line between the main station and the Ostbahnhof. The tram 19, which runs parallel to the main line, is also on the road with additional trips between Pasing and Ostbahnhof on request of the S-Bahn.

Most lines end prematurely

The S-Bahn lines will run differently than usual on the two weekends: The S8 is diverted in both directions via the Südring and does not stop between Ostbahnhof and Pasing or at the Leuchtenbergring. All other lines start/end early. In the west applies: The S1 runs regularly between Freising/airport and Moosach. It runs between Moosach and the main station without stopping and only every half hour. the S2 and S4 end at the Hackerbrücke, the S3 in Pasing. the S6 runs non-stop between Pasing and the main train station. the S7 ends at the main train station and does not stop at the Hackerbrücke.

The lines end and begin in the east S2, S3, S4, S6, S7 at Ostbahnhof.

Information for passengers is available on platforms and in the trains. The details are on as well s-bahn-muenchen.de/baustellen to find.
