Some reacted with surprise, others knew it: the right-wing scene had been meeting in an event location at the Olympic Park for years. “I wasn’t aware that such a meeting point had been formed in the middle of Munich,” says Christian Vorländer, deputy of the town hall SPD and committed to combating right-wing extremism. Since the beginning of the pandemic, meetings of “lateral thinkers”, conspiracy theorists and AfD politicians have taken place at “Weitblick”. Vorländer says: “I’m shocked that the operators lacked any sensitivity. It’s good that they’re ending it now.” The operators have announced that they will “no longer accept booking requests from political groups,” especially from the right-wing scene.
