What does it say about a city’s pop music when many music lovers still associate Munich with the “Sound of Munich” from the 1970s? With Giorgio Moroder, Freddy Mercury, Donna Summer. With synth-euro disco sound. With music from 50 years ago. Sure, the attention paid to bands from Munich has not necessarily increased in recent years. This may have something to do with the fact that leading music magazines moved from Munich to Berlin years ago, and perhaps also with the departure of the Sony record company.
The fact that there are exciting newcomer bands in Munich has been shown for years at events such as “Munich Rocks”, “Sprungbrett” and “Sound of Municht now” – talented musicians, well supported by the pop department, in short: the best conditions, only got For a long time the rest of the country didn’t notice much of this. That can change now, and that also has something to do with Trikont, perhaps the oldest indie label in Germany. The record company from Obergiesing recently signed several Munich newcomer bands, such as Malva with her indie pop chansons, or rocket review with their charmingly snotty German indie rock. “A little fresh wind under the sails can certainly not harm the somewhat aging frigate Trikont,” says Trikont Managing Director Brendan Erler, “but in the end – as always – the musical quality, charisma and especially the extraordinary live energy gave the rash.”
Of course, Trikont has always had Munich bands under contract, Philip Bradatsch, Angela Aux, Inga – but the fact that young artists are now also experiencing this appreciation has an impact on the Munich music scene. Young musicians can benefit from Trikont’s experience and reach – in the case of Malva, their concert list no longer fits on a DIN A3 page, which could also have something to do with their manager. Young bands now know that record companies look at them – if they are good. That can be motivating. And musicians now know that their work is valued, this aspect is important to Trikont boss Eva Mair-Holmes, which will also be evident in further signings. Because Trikont’s Munich project is not yet complete. And that is nice.
