Munich Re manager goes to Allianz – Wirtschaft

Jörg Schneider, CFO of the reinsurer Munich Re until 2018, has a good chance of succeeding Allianz’s supervisory board chairman Michael Diekmann. At the insurer’s general meeting on May 8, 2024, the 65-year-old Schneider is to be elected to the supervisory board together with 55-year-old Stephanie Bruce, the former chief financial officer of the British asset manager Abrdn. They replace Herbert Hainer (69) and Christine Bosse (63), who are leaving the supervisory board for reasons of age. Schneider is also to become deputy chairman of the supervisory board. This is a step to position him as the successor to Diekmann, whose term expires in 2026, according to company sources.

The 65-year-old Schneider is a sober numbers cruncher with a high work ethic. The alliance at the top can really use both. Schneider worked for Munich Re for 18 years. During his time as CFO, he had to steer the reinsurer, among other things, through the stock crisis after the dot-com bubble burst at the beginning of the millennium, which brought the company to the brink of insolvency.
